George Simmonds began exploring the trombone at the tender age of 8, when the local brass band came to perform at his school. Fascinated by the trombone, he started taking lessons through the Redbridge Music Service. George slowly fell in love with the instrument, and by the age of 18 he was playing with several local big bands in east London.

 

It was when he went to college that George found his true passion for music. Despite studying the history of war, George joined several bands around London, including bands such as The Denmark Street Big Band, the Spanner Jazz Punks, The Urban Voodoo Machine and the Fallen Heroes. For over a decade, he has led his own funk/R'n'B band, The Squintet, which enjoys some success in the more salubrious venues around town. By the time he had left college, he had already played with a number of famous musicians and celebrities, including: Dr. John, Maceo Parker, Ronnie Wood, Chris Barber, Mitch Winehouse, KT Tunstal, Ray Gelato, and many others aside. He also briefly worked on several cruise ships, touring the world and meeting a whole variety of other musicians of all nationalities.

 

George currently tours regularly with Tankus the Henge around the UK and Europe. However, in some quieter moments you might find him playing around London with other groups such as the Big Smoke Family and the Squintet, as well as groups such as Dat Brass, Bare Jams, Baby Jools & The Jazzaholics and the Palace Avenue Orchestra from time to time. 2019 was an exciting year, and 2020 promises to be ever more crazy, with new tunes and a possible recording on the horizon.
